Honeymoon Blog Post #2

I apologize for the delay on this one. I wrote this post earlier in the month, but the lack of wi-fi has prevented me from posting it until now. This is the second of my meandering honeymoon thoughts. I hope you enjoy it!

Vacations are weird. Don’t get me wrong, I’m enjoying this one greatly, but it feels odd not going to work every day and taking it easy on the writing. I think I’ve almost forgotten what it feels like to just exist. I’ve been either working towards my goals, procrastinating on working towards my goals, or doing my day job that I’ve actually, genuinely forgotten what it feels like to exist.

And that’s a shame, I think. I mean I shouldn’t lose sight of my goals and where I want to be, but at the same time there needs to be a balance. A way to enjoy the world and move forward. Because if I just focus on the peak and not the journey, eventually, the victory will feel hollow.

Anyways, I’ve been actively working on being present. On enjoying the moment and I’ve seen some beautiful sights. Badlands was awesome and I’ve never seen borderline mountains made of what’s essentially loose rock. Same with the Black Hills. We took the Needle Highway drive and drove up a mountain which was a tense but unforgettable experience.

The Howl writer and wild west fan in me also enjoyed looking at genuine wild west apparel in Door, South Dakota, and I even bought a Stetson hat (granted I got the ball cap and not the traditional cowboy version but a Stetson is a Stetson). Deadwood’s coming up too and I just know that’s going to be a boon to both my writing and love of history. It’ll be cool to see such a historic wild west town.

Also a buffalo just walked behind my car and that was pretty cool.

Ultimately, while vacations are weird, they’re also a lot of fun and I just got to work on enjoying the present moment and this time with my new bride. Because eventually, I’ll be back to the grind and missing all the natural splendor that is the great outdoors.

Anyways, that’s all I got for today, thank you all for your time and I hope you have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Josh Acocella
