End of the Year 2022

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Everyone!

And with this post, our year is coming to an end.

I've had some areas in which I've made a lot of progress. I made a website, started a blog I've semi regularly updated, and finished my first draft of my third book (tentatively titled: Howl). I also got my blue belt this year which was awesome as well.

Drafting has become something I can do, which is surreal to think about when I remember how hard that was when I was starting off. I remember how I could barely do 250 words in a given week when I started my writing journey back in 2016 and now, I can bust out 1000 words of prose in about an hour.

However, with the solution to one problem in this adventure, comes the rising of the next. Like all hardships along the way, this is one that once I overcome it, will enable me to be a better writer and artist. But dang, returning back to go and having to build a new skill is tough sometimes.

And that not so new thing is Editing. All the difficulty, all the gum up in the works that is currently taken up my time is editing. It's an entirely different skill and one that requires a different kind of discipline. And it's hard to face that whenever I fall short (like I did several times this year), that I'll need to revise, revamp, and regroup before proceeding.

But that's part of the process and as a writer, I have to trust that those who made it to the other side have been where I'm at now.

Ultimately, there's victory and there's failures in this year. I never did a BJJ tournament, nor did I finish the third draft of Gloradel. And that's nothing in regards to my utter inability to actually save money this year. However, in the end, there's only so many ways in which I can look at this aside from taking direct responsibility and making a new plan for 2023.

Life isn't a binary, and although I didn't go as far as I originally wanted, I did make progress. And all I can do now is learn from my failures. Build from what I can build from. Celebrate the Victories. And move forward the best I can.

And I hope the same is true for all of you.

Sincerely,

Josh Acocella
