April 2023 - Quarter One Update

Hey Everybody!

I hope this message is finding everyone well. Quarter One of 2023 is done and the point of this blog post is to reflect on my progress, provide updates, and set goals for Quarter Two.

So far, this year has been off to a semi-strong start. I met my drafting and editing time spent goals. From January through March, I've written 30,000 words and have edited for 75 hours. The good news is that this is a good pace for the drafting and one that is relatively scalable. The bad news is that twenty-five hours a month is not enough time spent to progress with my editing. As a result, I'm bumping it up to thirty hours a month for April through June.

I've also written the first draft of my Gloradel book proposal. The goal for quarter two is to finish it. Once done, whether I've completed this revision of Gloradel (on Chapter 23 of 27 currently) or not, I'm going to enter the arena and start submitting.

There's a lot to learn by just trying, by doing. I dreamt for years of doing jiu-jitsu and now I'm doing it. There are good days and rough ones, but I'm the arena. Now it's time for me to enter a new arena with my writing. It's time to throw that gauntlet down and cross the metaphorical Rubicon. Hopefully as we move forward, Gloradel will be the book that makes it through. But if it's not Gloradel, it'll be White Rose. And if it's not White Rose, it'll be Howl. It's as simple as that.

Ultimately, I'll keep chipping away and I hope you all do the same.

Also, I've checked out the Cradle series by Will Wight. I'm only three books in so far, but it's a really cool series. I'm a sucker for power progression animes and fantasy, so it's right up my alley. I think I'll write more about it in a future post, but we'll see what comes of it.

Thank you all for your time and I hope you have a great day!

Sincerely,

Josh Acocella
